Southminster has announced that it recently closed on the purchase of two acres of land from Quail Hollow Presbyterian Church. The land will be used for Phase 2 of the retirement community’s four-phase expansion plan, designed to enhance the lives of retiring Baby Boomers for decades to come. The land is adjacent to Southminster’s front parking lot, extending north along Park Road and east along the northern edge of the community’s property.
Phase 1 of Southminster Terraces will consist of two boutique buildings, one with 18 residences and the other with 12. Located on land that was once home to four duplex cottages, both buildings will be three stories above ground with access to underground secured parking. Homes will range in size from approximately 1,400 to 2,100 square feet and will represent the very best in living at Southminster when they are completed in 4th Quarter 2018.
Phase 2, which will be built on the acreage purchased from the church, will encompass 36 new residences. The architects envision two buildings, each with 18 units connected by a three-story corridor. Their design aims to incorporate the sloped grade of the parcel of land to allow for additional underground parking. Targeted project start date is 1st Quarter 2018. Altogether, the Southminster Terraces will add sixty-six (66) new residences with the expectation that they will be fully occupied by the end of 2019.
Phase 3 of Southminster’s expansion plan will focus on building a new Health Center that will represent state-of-the-art assisted living and skilled nursing care in Charlotte. Phase 4 will revolve around renovation of the current Health Center to add 23 additional new residences, with features such as large terraces and Juliette balconies.
