CATIE stands for Communication and Access to Information Everywhere. It’s a multimedia and self-service application, delivered on iPads, to provide intercom, message center, digital signage and concierge capabilities to residents at Southminster. The mission behind CATIE is to help today’s seniors stay connected to the world around them. Everyone has the right to, and wants the ability to easily access information that’s important to them. We are providing our residents with that ability to get information, digitally, via CATIE.
CATIE is set up in each resident’s home as a stationary, always “powered-on” kiosk that’s wall or desk-mounted. CATIE automates self-service for our residents so they can access the information and amenities they want just by pushing a few buttons on the intuitive touch screen – no intimidating keyboards or training required. Following are some examples of what CATIE does to help our residents, while enhancing our amenity set:
- Communicate with staff and other residents via the intercom
- Email friends and family near and far using voice-reply
- Receive digital photos and save them in a personal photo gallery
- View daily/weekly menus
- View daily/weekly/monthly activities
- Place housekeeping and maintenance service requests
- Know when the mail has arrived through a status indicator
- See the current weather and four-day forecast
- Be notified of safety and security alerts, including inclement weather warnings and instructions

The Green Pages business directory is similar in concept to that directory of another color. Yet the Green Pages e-directory also features live telephone connectivity for instant communication through the CATIE kiosk. With a couple of finger taps, it’s easy for residents to connect with the community at large, getting access to the information and services they desire. We appreciate these businesses for the promotional and educational information they provide, and because the advertising revenue from their membership is shared with our community, they are also helping to offset the cost of providing CATIE, thereby creating an ever-expanding circle of mutual benefit.
