The deadline to submit to the Home Again exhibition has passed. We are no longer accepting applications at this time.

Calling all local artists! We invite both amateur and professional Carolina based artists to submit artwork for Southminster’s upcoming summer exhibition, Home Again. This exhibition highlights the complicated meanings of home, from the people who feel like home, to the places we were raised, to the locations we find ourselves along the way. At Southminster, our residents range from home-grown Charlotte locals to those who’ve lived all over the world, and even those who had never stepped foot in the Carolinas until retirement. Home may change meaning as we age, but for many, it will always be where their heart is.

Local artists are invited to interpret what home means to them, using any style and 2-D medium to express the feelings of home unique to their lived experiences. While for some, home may bring nostalgic memories of warmth and comfort; for others, home may ignite feelings of transition, unease, and even fear. Throughout our lives, the meaning of home often morphs as we move through the world, both figuratively and literally. Is home a physical location? Is home a memory? Or is home a feeling? At Southminster, many of us have found new community and family, a different version of home. The exhibition, Home Again, hopes to bridge the gap between our nostalgic roots and the homes we create along the way. With art, we ask the question – can you ever go home again?

Home Again will be on display at Southminster’s Main Street Art Gallery from June 26th until August 31st, with the opening reception being held on Friday, June 26th, from 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm. Main Street Art Gallery is located on the 1st floor of Southminster and open to all Southminster residents, guests and team members. The opening reception for Home Again will be available for the public to attend.
