Southminster is the result of a partnership between Christ Episcopal Church and Myers Park Baptist Church who shared a common vision of an ecumenical, non-profit, retirement community.
Founded in 1987, Southminster is a non-profit, continuing care retirement community (CCRC) located in the SouthPark area of Charlotte, North Carolina. We are accredited by CARF-CCAC (The Continuing Care Accreditation Commission), the nation’s only accreditation program for continuing care retirement communities, and fully licensed by the North Carolina Department of Insurance and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
Southminster opened its doors to an elegant and traditional community designed to meet the expectations of mature and discerning Charlotteans. It was an immediate success. But by 2004 the new residents moving into our community requested larger homes, state-of-the-art workout and wellness facilities, the finest medical care, and choices in high quality dining experiences. Residents expected Southminster to provide them with choices and opportunities far beyond those available to them in their current home. The board of directors assembled a team of industry experts to develop a new, long-range plan for the renovation and expansion of the community in keeping with 21st century expectations.
Construction on the new plan began in 2007 and in October 2008, Southminster celebrated our second ribbon cutting.
In 2012, Southminster celebrated its 25th year anniversary.
