Volunteer Opportunities

The volunteers at Southminster are so important because they provide our residents opportunities and companionship they often miss when their friends and/or family are not available to them. As a volunteer, you will enhance our residents' well-being by allowing them to be more active physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Each volunteer will be assigned an opportunity based on his or her particular interest/talent. These do not require a lot of time, and we are sure to work with your schedule. Below are just a few ideas of how our volunteers contribute.

  • Call on Bingo -- Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays at 1:30 p.m.
  • Popcorn and TV Classics on Wednesdays in Camellia Court at 2:30 p.m.
  • Parlor Games in Camellia Court -- Tuesdays at 2:30 p.m.
  • Crosswords on Ivy Lane -- Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m.
  • Assist with shopping trips to Quail Corners -- Tuesdays and Fridays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesdays at 2:00 p.m.
  • Assist with monthly Birthday Celebration
  • Assist with monthly Meet & Greet Social
  • Assist with other monthly shopping trips to Target, Wal-Mart, Mall trips

In order to become a part of our volunteer family, we require volunteers to complete the following screening process:

  • A two-part tuberculin test administered by our nursing staff
  • A drug screening test
  • A brief interview and orientation to the Southminster volunteer program
